#BLACKLOVE BOOK CLUB I | salvation: black people + love / bell hooks

Flyer for #BLACKLOVE BOOK CLUB featuring a black and white image of bell hooks laughing with Marlon Riggs

#BLACKLOVE #BOOKCLUB .!

It’s officially here. We are keeping #BlackLiterature lit and closing out #nationalbookmonth and #nationalreadinggroupmonth (? who knew!), and strolling into #ScorpioSeason by announcing our first iteration of the Black Love Book Club. Each astrological month, we will be delving deep into the dynamics of Black Love in all its forms by reading a Black-authored work on the subject of love. We will alternate between works of fiction and non-fiction, and felt it requisite to launch the series with none other that bell hooks’ vital work “Salvation: Black People + Love”. Yes, we acknowledge that this title is technically the second in hooks’ three part “Love Song to the Nation”, and yet “All About Love” gets so much love… we wanted to share the love and go straight to the heart of the matter.

When? third fridays starting 11/18

What time? 5-7pm

Who? You, your boo + your crew

Where? LOVING ROOM, of course

What else? loving dialogue on what Black Love means to you, how the author’s work deepens your understanding and practice of Black love, and which lessons and insights from the text with remain with you. Also, food + drink while we link and think

You can purchase a copy of Salvation in store, or online at our Bookshop under the reading list for #BlackLove.

No need to register for now, although I may create an Eventbrite later..

Stay blessed y’all! Enjoy the read and the ride, and see your beautiful self in November
